VILLAGERS are being asked to join in a spooky-themed Halloween hunt.

Dozens of knitted pumpkins have sprung up in West Bergholt in the name of the Tom Bowdidge Youth Cancer Foundation after being made by volunteers and knitting group Knit One Down One.

Nikki Bowdidge, chief executive officer and founder of the Tom Bowdidge Youth Cancer Foundation, said: “It’s really all thanks to villager and friend Jo Beck for not only coming up with the idea but really helping to pull it all together.

“I’d be surprised if any shops have any orange wool left at this rate. We’ve been knitting furiously for the past few weeks.

“This year’s Easter Bunny Hunt was cancelled because of lockdown and the village really missed out on the fun.

“We decided the half term holiday was the perfect time to add a little spooky twist and bring the hunt back.”

The fun begins on Saturday October 24 at the foundation’s garage sale in the village with pumpkin maps on sale for £1 from 9 Firmins Court, West Bergholt, and Rivendell, Queens Road, West Bergholt, and will continue through half term.

Nikki said the Tom Bowdidge Youth Cancer Foundation was taking precautions because of coronavirus.

She said: “We have looked at all the advice and don’t want anyone to put themselves at risk. If you have any symptoms at all please stay home and self-isolate.

“If you wish to take part it is incredibly important you make sure you follow Government guidelines, are social-distancing from anyone you might see on the way and stay in your house bubble.

“We are also asking people not to touch the pumpkins. As always, please do check for latest advice from the Government and put your safety first.”

The Foundation has an Individual Giving Campaign where supporters can give a monthly donation. Alternatively, text the amount you wish to donate to CRACKON4TOM to 70085.
