THE final stage in a series of highway works to improve the A131 and A130 between Braintree and Chelmsford has been completed.

Engineers removed roadworks at Sheepcotes Roundabout this week.

The improved road scheme provides a new dedicated left turn slip from Braintree Road to the A130, an increase in the roundabout’s capacity and has widened the approach to the roundabout on Essex Regiment Way to two lanes.

The improvements were part of a Chelmsford to Braintree road scheme, which benefited from an investment of £7.3 million by Essex County Council and the Government.

  • Work has been completed at Sheepcotes roundabout

Highway improvement works along the route have been carried out in phases over three years and included works to Essex Regiment Way, Deres Bridge, Nabbotts roundabout and finally Sheepcotes roundabouts, to boost capacity and improve safety, as well as seeing bus lane improvements.

Deputy county council leader Kevin Bentley said: “It is pleasing to see the final phase in the series of improvements completed on this important corridor between Braintree and Chelmsford.

“The improvements will not only support future economic growth in the area, but will also ease the burden on those who already commute through the area and use public transport on a regular basis.”
