May I through your newspaper from a cyclist point of view try to make motorists see that if I am riding my cycle away from the kerb a little more than usual I am doing this not to be obstructive to the motorist but to avoid things like sunken drains, potholes in the road surface and large crater cracks.

If I happen to hit any of these I will be flung off my bike and not only that, I could end up severely injured and even flung into the path of a car which may be right behind me.

I have to also point out that there are quite a few very nasty potholes along sections of Broad Road in Bocking.

I happened to be out on my bike on Sunday afternoon and a motorist that was obviously extremely impatient trying to push past while I rode around these potholes. They would not even listen to me when I stopped and had a word with them trying to point out why I was in such a position on the road in the first place.

I will also point out that when a cyclist does get injured through faults such as potholes it costs the highways department literally thousands of pounds in compensation, which is taxpayers’ money, so please be more observant when there are cyclists around.
