Colchester Castle was evacuated as fire crews responded to an automatic alarm.
Essex Fire Service confirmed firefighters were called to the Castle, off Museum Street, this morning.

Two engines pulled up outside the Castle gates, with staff and visitors pictured waiting outside while crews investigated.
A spokesman for the fire service confirmed the crews responded to a false alarm.
