A CAT-LOVER is appearing on a hit crafty Christmas TV show with Kirstie Allsopp.

Paige Deacon, owner of From Me To Mew, in Braintree, will appear on Kirstie’s Handmade Christmas on Channel 4 tonight to showcase her handmade cat toys and accessories.

The 28-year-old previously applied to appear on the show, which is presented by Location, Location, Location star Kirstie, last year but didn’t make it on.

This year Paige is taking part in the best handmade pet gift category.

She said: “I reapplied in the summer and then got a call from the team.

“In September they came to film my back story and then in October I was taken to Devon for filming.”

This year the show, which has been running for ten years, will feature 120 different arts and crafts across 15 episodes in the festive period.

Paige said: “I made a Christmas wreath which is also a scratching pole for a cat.

“I work night shifts so I won’t be able to watch it live but I will definitely watch it on catch-up – my niece and nephew have already set their alarm.”

Paige, who now has four cats, started making her own pet toys after not being able to find what she wanted in the shops for her own moggies.

She said: “I am a crazy cat lady anyway, so I started making cat toys after we got our second kitten.

“I got bored with all the same pet toys in the shops so I started making my own.

“I started making them for my friends and then started selling them as well.”

Paige found crafts the best way to help her cope after losing her mum last year.

She said: “After my mum died my mental health took quite a knock and making the toys brought me out of some very dark places. It helped me get out and do something again.

“Craft is amazing for mental health and I encourage anyone to take it up and try it.”

Paige will also be featuring her designs at Braintree Christmas market on Saturday, December 21. She is on Kirstie’s Handmade Christmas on Channel 4 tonight at 5pm.
