An application for 250 new homes has been given the green light by council members.

Planning permission has been granted for the houses to be built to the west of Kelvedon Station.

The application was approved by Braintree Council at a planning meeting on Tuesday night.

The housing already had outline planning permission.

Planning officers asked council members to approved the reserved matters application after providing specific details on the layout and design.

The plans were previously questioned by the public after concerns the new homes would not be in keeping with the historic character of Kelvedon.

Councillor Gabrielle Spray said: “This is an unusual application for us to decide on.

“For me I like the design of the houses. I think they are acceptable I don’t think they will look out of character.”

Kelvedon Parish Council recently withdrew some of its concerns after the developers revised some of their proposals.

The planning application was unanimously approved by members of the planning committee.
