A RESIDENT’S wall was knocked down by a police car during a chase.

People living in Berechurch Hall Road, Colchester, spotted blue lights whizzing past their windows.

Police were pursuing what is believed to be a black Volkswagen Golf and during the pursuit a resident’s wall was destroyed.

The resident, who does not wish to be named, said: “It happened just after 6pm on Thursday.

“I had just sat down in the lounge with my toddler son and saw a stream of blue lights.

“The next thing I knew I saw more blue lights, it seemed like they had hand-brake turned into my drive but too fast.

“I looked out the window and saw the police car ploughing into the fence and mounting the concrete pillar. There was a black Golf in there somewhere too.

“The police car then reversed out into the road and drove off.”

The resident said her older children went outside to take a look and she called the police to inform them of the crash.

She said: “They were shocked and apologetic.

“The police vehicle returned and sat in the zebra crossing area waiting to be recovered for almost an hour and a half.

“A traffic officer came out to investigate the crash in this time.

“They did tell us the black Golf had been caught a few roads over. Somebody was arrested and a quantity of drugs recovered.”

The Golf and the police car collided with each other during the chase.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “We attempted to stop a vehicle in Mersea Road at around 6.20pm.

“The vehicle failed to stop and was in collision with a police vehicle in Berechurch Hall Road.

“The driver of the vehicle ran off but we detained a 19-year-old man from Earls Colne on suspicion of drugs related offences.”

He has now been released on bail until November 5.
