Cadets from Squadrons across the North Sector of Essex marched down Witham High Street last weekend.

Witham Air Cadets were joined by other cadets from Chelmsford, Braintree, Dunmow and Maldon to commemorate the 79th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

The parade, which began at the RAFA club and ended at the Holy Family and All Saints Church, was led by the North Sector band, playing lots of familiar RAF tunes, including ‘The Great Escape and ‘It’s A Long Way to Tipperary’.

Cadets were also in Witham town centre all day on Saturday September 14, collecting money for the RAFA Wings Appeal, which helps current and former RAF personnel and their families who are in need.

Earlier this year, Flight Sergeant Rebecca Corderiro was selected as the Royal Air Force Air Cadets (RAFAC) Lord Lieutenant’s cadet for 2019/20.

Rebecca said: “It was a very busy day of parading in two separate towns, but it was a real honour to support the Lord Lieutenant on her duty and be a part of a very poignant ceremony.

“It was also a very nice experience to play in the band through the high street and be a part of the ensemble in the service and perform a reading of some of the events during the Battle of Britain.”

Prior to the parade she was at the Grays War Memorial in Thurrock with local dignitaries and fellow Lord Lieutenant cadets supporting the Lord Lieutenant, Mrs Jennifer Tolhurst in a remembrance service for the Battle of Britain.
