Sporty youngsters at a village school are celebrating after scooping a special Games Gold Mark Award.

Children at Great Bradfords Junior School received the award for their achievements in physical education over the last academic year.

The School Games Mark is a government-led award scheme launched in 2012 with the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to competition across their school and the community.

Sports Coordinator, Sarah Shanley said: “Achieving the Gold Mark Award means so much to the children and the staff at the school.

“There has been a huge increase in the number of children who are now participating in the extra-curricular sporting activities, as well as sporting opportunities during the school day.

“The increased enthusiasm and participation of the children has been reflected by the successes the school has had throughout the year in sporting events.”

Last year the school won a range of events including a local school football tournament, netball league and tournaments and winning the district sports and lots of success for their cross-country team.

The school now offers a wide range of clubs, tournaments, festivals and matches to their children.
