Football club bosses have announced they will be erecting a memorial to honour Prodigy star Keith Flint, who passed away earlier this year.
His funeral attracted thousands and a petition for a statue in the town gained over 10,000 signatures.
Now Braintree Town F.C have identified a space next to the main grandstand which will host a memorial to the ‘Firestarter’ singer.
Hertfordshire based street artist Gnasher has been commissioned to work on the mural project.
He has previously worked with football clubs including Crystal Palace, West Ham United, Grimsby Town and Swindon Town. He also has family ties with Braintree and has previously worked on a mural and an oil painting of Keith.
Braintree prides itself on being a community club and at the start of the season changed the music the team enters the field to the Prodigy’s ‘Firestarter’.
Work plans to be completed on the memorial in early October.
Keith was found dead at his home in North End, near Dunmow, on March 4.
He was just 49.
An inquest into his death recorded an open verdict.
