A comedian will be bringing his wit and humour to Braintree when his popular show returns.

Lee Hurst’s Local Comedy Club will see the hilarious comic joined by three comedians of his choice on stage during a two-hour spectacle which promises to leave the audience in hysterics throughout.

Lee is best known for his starring role in a number of TV shows, including the sports quiz, They Think It’s All Over.

Show producer Harry Thompson choose Lee to be the warm-up man for the pilot episode and despite knowing very little about football, Lee went on to win the hearts of millions across the UK and become a leading part of the first five series.

Since then, the comic has gone on to feature on other TV programmes such as Shark Tank, Saturday Live, Salvage Squad and The Warehouse, as well as guest appearances on Have I Got News For You.

Lee went into semi-retirement in the early 2000s to concentrate on his comedy venue, the Backyard Comedy Club in Bethnal Green.

The club’s growing popularity saw it demolished and rebuilt alongside a seven-storey hotel in 2010.

Lee also started to take his stand-up on tour and with the comedian proving a hit in his home county of Kent, he eventually came to Essex and Braintree last year where his Local Comedy Club show proved a huge hit.

Such was its success, Lee returned in March this year and he will once again be back at Braintree Arts Theatre by popular demand later this month.

His side-splitting show will feature two intervals and material from three as yet unnamed up and coming comedians.

Tickets cost £14 in advance or £16 on the night.

The show will take place on Saturday, September 16 and will get under way at 7.30pm.
