A ROTARY club was invited to take a tour of a cancer centre site after raising more than £2,000.

The Rotary Club of Colchester Trinity signed up to the Colchester and Ipswich Hospitals Charity’s 2019 Club.

Members have to raise £2019 which will go towards the creation of the new cancer centre at Colchester Hospital.

During a cheque presentation the club was given a tour of the site.

Graham Thornton of the Rotary Club of Colchester Trinity said: “We were delighted to be invited to a tour of the Collingwood Centre site. “Our club has been supporting the Cancer Centre Campaign since it started in 2014, so it is especially exciting to have the opportunity to see the progress that has been made on the building and make a final donation of £2019 to join the 2019 Club.”

There is still close to £100,000 of the £3.25million left to raise. Visit www.colchesteripswichcharity.org.uk/cancercentrecampaign.

Caroline Bates, head of fundraising at the Colchester and Ipswich Hospitals Charity, said: “We are so proud to be showing our supporters around the Collingwood Centre site.

“After all the amazing fundraising that has taken place it is pleasing to see the progress being made.

“We do still need to raise funds towards the finishing touches.

“The centre will open to chemotherapy and haematology patients later this year.”
