DETAILS of a confidential lease agreement between Colchester Council and Alumno could be made public following pressure from campaigners.

Opponent of the scheme Alan Short called for an update from the council’s cabinet on the agreement as well as details of the council’s cost analysis, which were requested a year ago.

He said: “Details of the lease should be published so we understand where we are, what decisions have been made and how far the council is committed in dealing with this land.”

Resources boss David King said he was working with council officers and hoped to be able to release as much information relating to the lease as possible in the near future.

He said: “I am not in the position I want to be in which is I want to be able to share as much as I can.

“As we all know a heavily redacted document has less meaning and arouses more suspicion.

“What is really important is we get an understanding with Alumno about the release of the lease agreement.

“My personal position is there is no reason why, as it is about public money, we should not be able to release the value we gain, as well as be able to talk uncomfortable though the development was to many, about the reasons why we went into this.”
