ELEPHANTS will be taking over Colchester Library on Saturday as part of a summer of events to celebrate the town's Jumbo water tower.

Free activities for children will include making elephant masks, building Lego towers and finding elephants hidden in the library.

These will take place between 3pm and 4pm.

Town centre shops and business are also being encouraged to decorate windows with a Jumbo theme in the run up to the final Jumbo Summer Celebration at 2.30pm on Sunday July 21.

The final celebration event will include a screening of an animated film made by school children at Firstsite.

Work produced at a course run by historians, as well as at a workshop for budding architects and designers will also be on show.

And a specially-commissioned documentary film about the iconic water tower will have its first screening.

North Essex Heritage is working with partners, including the building’s owner, Paul Flatman, towards preserving Jumbo and bringing it back into sustainable use.

Supported by Colchester Council and through a grant award of £10,000 from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Jumbo Summer is enabling people of all ages to learn about the heritage of the historic water tower.
