A DEVELOPER has unveiled major plans to build up to 400 homes on the edge of Witham.

Countryside Properties is putting the finishing touches to its vision to build a new estate on land at Wood End Farm and the firm says it hopes to submit formal plans to Braintree Council later this summer.

The site is allocated for a maximum of 450 homes in the draft Local Plan and is located close to junction 21 of the A12.

Included in the scheme will be a new 30-place nursery, 120 affordable homes, a new park area and allotments.

The developer is also considering a new care home with space for 80 residents and allocating an area within the site for commercial use.

Countryside Properties says if approved, the proposals will benefit the whole town as it would provide funding to improve infrastructure across Witham.

A spokesman said: "We are looking to provide new homes for people who understandably want to move here because of Witham’s great location and for those who already live here and want to stay but can’t find appropriate housing.

"Our vision for Wood End Farm is to create a vibrant new community that is integrated with the town of Witham. We also want to create an attractive new southern gateway to the town welcoming residents and visitors alike.

"To achieve this vision, we would provide a range of different housing types with inspirational architecture, well-maintained landscape and inviting open spaces.

"In addition, we would improve access from the A12 and create new footpaths and cycle paths to make it easy for people to travel by bike and on foot."

Outline details of the scheme were unveiled to the public during a consultation at the Spring Lodge Community Centre on Saturday.

Countryside Properties says it will now consider feedback from residents before it submits a planning application in the coming months.

The developer has also vowed to keep the public updated on the scheme and is likely to hold discussions with Witham Town Council before the final blueprints are handed to Braintree Council.

The public consultation closes on June 30. To leave feedback, visit woodendfarmconsultation.co.uk.
