PARTS of a busy road will be closed while resurfacing works take place.

Essex County Council said surface dressing works will take place in Lexden Road, Colchester on Wednesday.

Works to fill some potholes have already taken place, and the surface dressing is a way of restoring the road surface.

Sections of the carriageway between St Leonard’s Church and West Lodge Road will be closed.

Access for pedestrians and bikes will be kept but there may be short periods where cars cannot access driveways. A diversion will be in place before West Lodge Road.

A county council spokeswoman said: “Subject to weather and progress on other work, we intend to carry out works on Wednesday.

“Because it is such an important bus route, we hope to manage letting buses through during the works.

“When we are working on some of the narrower sections of the road there may be some slight delays for buses.”

“Lexden Road is some 17,000 square metres, which we aim to resurface in one day, but if we are delayed until the afternoon to start then we would have to attend again on the Thursday morning to finish.”

The next job will be in Nayland Road straight after the Lexden Road works, these will also take two days.

The spokeswoman added: “We would ask drivers to plan alternative routes during 9.30am and 3.30pm. At all other times roads will be open.”
