An inquest looking into the death of a homeless man at Marks Tey Station has opened.

Daniel Whyte, of no fixed address, was found unresponsive at the station on February 26.

Paramedics attended but the 45-year-old was pronounced dead at 11.53pm.

Coroner's officer Jemma Cook said: "British Transport Police confirmed the death as non-suspicious.

"A postmortem was carried out at Colchester Hospital.

"The provisional cause of death was given as fatal injuries awaiting toxicology results."

At Chelmsford Coroner's Court on Thursday senior coroner Caroline Beasley-Murray opened and adjourned the inquest.

She said: "I will need a copy of the postmortem and toxicology results.

"I see this man was known to the mental health services in Suffolk and Norfolk.

"I will await reports from those services and the British Transport Police."

A provisional date for the full inquest has been set for August 1.
