A WARTIME porter at train stations across the Tendring district has passed away aged 104.
Edna Orriss, formerly of Seymour Road, Clacton, died following a chest infection on January 26.
She was born in Shimpling, near Diss, Norfolk, but moved to Aingers Green, Great Bentley, after her marriage in 1936.
During the war, Edna worked as a porter at Colchester, Thorrington and Great Bentley stations.
In 1951, she moved with husband Alf and daughter Heather to Norfolk until 1955, when the family relocated to Surrey.
Edna worked as a traffic warden in Croydon during the 1960s and 70s before they retired back to Clacton in 1979.
Alf died in 2000, but Edna continued to live in the family home until February 2014, when she moved into residential care in Kent to be near family.
A funeral service will take place in Charring, near Ashford, on February 27
Edna leaves her daughter Heather and two grandson Mark and Adam.
