A PRIMARY school has opened a nurture room to help pupils who have experienced social, emotional or mental health issues.

The nurture room has been built at Spring Meadow Primary School to assist youngsters who are going through difficult times or who have suffered a personal trauma such as a bereavement in the family or a parental separation.

Emma Donegan, special educational needs co-ordinator at Spring Meadow, said: “For some time now there has been a growing need for us as a school to provide more in-depth emotional support and development for our pupils across all ages. This opportunity to create a warm, caring and nurturing environment for our school will provide so many benefits.”

Nicky Patrick, headteacher, said: “

Having this kind of facility as part of our school is particularly important in a location such as Harwich where alternative provision is scarce or located a long way away.”
