COLCHESTER’S MP has said the way a Tory colleague was abused by protestors outside parliament “crossed the line”.

Conservative MP Anna Soubry was verbally abused on Monday.

In total 50 or so MPs to have signed a letter calling on the head of the Metropolitan Police to improve their response to abusive protesters outside Parliament.

Writing to Met Police commissioner Cressida Dick, the MPs cited “serious concerns” about the “deteriorating public order and security situation”.

Will Quince, who did not sign the letter, said the way Ms Soubry was treated was “totally unacceptable”.

He tweeted: “I may totally disagree with @Anna_Soubry on Brexit but she is a friend of mine and a lovely person.

“Disagreement and passion in politics is good and healthy but the way Anna was treated crossed a line and was totally unacceptable.

“It has to stop now.”
