A SCHOOL has helped one of its selfless pupils collect more than 300 items for a foodbank.

Isla Chandler, who is eight from Colchester, has been trying to achieve her charity badge at Brownies.

Over the summer holidays she collected 150 items for Colchester Foodbank and wanted to see if she could get another 100. She hosted an assembly at St George’s Junior School, which she attends, and sent leaflets home. Isla managed to get a further 329 items with the school’s help.

Head teacher Carl Messer said: “We are so proud of what Isla has achieved. “It is easy to sometimes think one person alone cannot make a big impact, but by bringing together the school, Brownies and parkrun communities, Isla has demonstrated what can be achieved, even by somebody so young.”

“She has shown compassion in action, and really is a fine example of the positive attitudes that young people have in our community.”
