Rescue dogs are in for a treat this Christmas thanks to the kind efforts of a retailer.

Chelmsford Star Co-operative Society has generously donated a host of food and toys to Danaher Animal Home in Wethersfield.

Staff at Braintree Quadrant store handed the items over to senior animal care assistant Jack Taylor, who had also brought five-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier Shadow along to meet the team.

The Co-op’s membership coordinator Georgina Leather said: “It was so lovely to see Shadow and Jack, our members were really keen to support Danaher and we were thrilled with the response to our appeal, so a big thank you to everyone who contributed.”

The team at Quadrant hope to visit the animal home next year to learn more about the work done to rescue unwanted pets.

Bosses at Danaher are appealing for members of the public to donate Christmas shoeboxes filled with toys, food and treats for its animals.

The shoeboxes can be handed in at Danaher retail stores in Braintree, Chelmsford, Great Dunmow, Haverhill, Sudbury or Witham.
