I AM very disappointed by next season's Mercury Theatre programme.

I have nothing against tribute bands or comedy, but I'm saddened they are now dominating the Mercury's schedule, and that theatre, which should surely be their core offering, is being crowded out.

It used to be mostly theatre, with the occasional tribute band and even more occasional comedian - and their theatre offerings used to be a major part of what made Colchester special.

Worse still, what theatre there is can best be described as unchallenging.

Agatha Christie and Conan Doyle certainly have their place, if balanced with more serious theatre - but next season seems to be all dessert and no main course.

I hope they will reconsider this balance. I know I'm not the only person who feels it has got way out of kilter.
