A wine enthusiast has been awarded a scholarship and tuition from wine experts.

Former Helena Romanes student, Matthew Laws, won the prestigious scholarship by Moet Hennessy.

Mr Laws, 18, has been given £1,000 and will benefit from tuition by experts and a visit to their vineyards in Champagne, France.

Mr Laws started on the events management with hospitality degree course at The Edge Hotel School in September and combines academic study with practical work in the four-star hotel on campus, Wivenhoe House.

He said: “I have always been interested in working with wines and applied for this scholarship as it is such a prestigious company.

“I will use the money to extend my stay in France when I visit Champagne so I can explore more wine growing areas and extend my knowledge.

“Relatives have just started a vineyard in Langham so hopefully I will be able to share some of things I learn with them.”

“I am currently working with the conference and events team. Every day is different and that’s exactly what I was looking for.”
