Police are hunting for the driver of a car seen driving on a road shortly after a fatal collision.

David Jones, 39, from Southminster, died after the Ford Fiesta he was driving crashed with a black BMW 520.

Both vehicles had left the road and the Fiesta had come to rest in a hedge.

Officers have received information a white Fiat Punto flashed its headlights at a white Vauxhall Astra in Blue Mills Hill shortly after the collision, which happened at around 11pm on Wednesday, October 10.

It is understood the Astra and Punto stopped shortly afterwards and there was a conversation between both drivers.

Police still need to urgently talk to the Punto driver about the collision.

Sgt Steve Holmes, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “While our investigation has progressed with a number of arrests made and witnesses spoken to, we still need to talk to the driver of a white Fiat Punto.

“We believe that the driver holds key information about the crash. If that was you or you have information about who that driver is, please contact us.”

Marcus Wood, 21, of The Street, Terling, is due to appear at Ipswich Crown Court on Friday, November 9, charged with dangerous driving, escaping lawful custody and perverting the course of justice.

A 54-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender in connection with the incident has been released on bail to November 6.

An 18-year-old man from Witham arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and assisting an offender has been released on bail until November 9.

An 18 year-old woman from Witham, an 18 year-old woman from Colchester, and a 17 year-old boy from Maldon arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving have been released under investigation pending ongoing enquiries.

A 31-year-old man from Heybridge on suspicion of perverting the cause of justice and assisting offenders has been released without charge.
