A BRAVE daughter is having her long locks chopped off to help young girls who lose their hair through chemotherapy.

Morgan David will be donating 18 inches of her hair to the Little Princess Trust, a charity which makes wigs for children.

Morgan, eight, who attends Lexden Primary School, wanted to brave the chop to raise awareness after her dad went through chemotherapy.

Dad Wayne, 32, was diagnosed with testicular cancer in January 2013 and had an operation.

He was all clear for two years but the cancer returned and he underwent an intense course of chemotherapy for a couple of months in 2015.

Morgan’s mum, Louise, 38, said Morgan and her twin brother Jamie have been wanting to raise awareness ever since.

She said: “When he was diagnosed the first time they were really little and didn’t know much about what was going on. The second time they were a bit more aware, when Wayne started having chemo his hair was getting really thin so we just cut it all off.

“I was always conscious about not making it sound scary so we didn’t say it was cancer, we told them there was something in his body which was making him poorly.

“They coped really well and we had great support from family, when they were old enough we told them daddy had cancer but he’s better now.”

Wayne has been all clear since his chemotherapy. A year after his treatment Jamie and Morgan went to watch a friend run the Colchester Relay for Life, in aid of Cancer Research UK.

They signed up and as a team the family raised more than £1,000.

After Louise told Morgan about the Little Princess Trust, she was keen to do something to help.

Louise said: “She said it’s really sad some girls don’t have their long hair due to chemotherapy.”

Morgan is having her hair cut at the Hair Hub on October 27. To support her visit www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Louise-David1.
