THURSTABLE School in Tiptree is considering cutting its lunch breaks from 50 minutes to just 35 minutes in an attempt to stop antisocial behaviour.
I assume this behaviour is by the minority of pupils.
Is it fair to introduce a measure which would affect all pupils?
In my opinion children should have a decent break in the middle of the day, not just to eat, but to associate with friends and have some downtime.
Achieving a work-life balance has been shown to be vital for an individual’s health and wellbeing as well as contributing to increased productivity.
The article explains the school would like more focused learning in the afternoons.
My daughter is due to begin secondary school in a few years.
I hope, for her sake, the parents of Thurstable school will opt not to agree to this change.
I would like her to benefit from decent lunch breaks as well as having the option of joining lunch time clubs.
I also want school to impress on her the importance of work-life balance as an idea which will stay with her for life.
Surely measures could be taken which target only those children displaying anti-social behaviour.
