ESSEX University has won an award for a scheme which lets students take foreign language classes at no extra charge for a year.

The Languages for All scheme, which was introduced last year, means students can study Arabic, French, German, Mandarin, Chinese and Spanish alongside their main degrees.

It has been selected by the CfBT Education Trust’s European Language Label Awards as one of 13 winners across the UK.

Dr Alexander Burdumy, Languages for All co-ordinator said: “Winning shows us that we are already succeeding in putting on a great programme, which provides language skills to a wide variety of learners and which features many innovative aspects and increases employability.

“The award will help us to raise awareness of the programme further and encourage more young people at the University of Essex to learn a foreign language through one of our strands.”
