A 12-year-old girl is in a critical condition in hospital after being hit by a car in North Lanarkshire.
The child was struck on The Loaning in Motherwell at around 4.15pm on Tuesday.
Emergency services, including an air ambulance, were called to the scene and she was ultimately taken by road ambulance to Glasgow’s Royal Hospital for Children.
The road was closed at Scotia Street and Logans Road and was expected to remain shut for some time.
A police spokeswoman said: “Around 4.15pm on Tuesday, police were called to a report of a 12-year-old girl having been struck by a vehicle on The Loaning, Motherwell.
“Emergency services attended and the girl was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow by ambulance, where her condition is described as critical.
“Inquiries are ongoing.”
