A pedestrian has died after being hit by a car on a country road.
The collision, which involved a white Renault Clio, happened on the A835, as the road passes over the river Conon, around half a mile east of the Maryburgh roundabout in the Highlands.
The driver of the Clio was not injured in the incident which happened at around 10pm on Thursday.
Police are appealing for information about the collision.
Sergeant Christopher Murray, of the Road Policing Department, Highlands and Islands Division, said: “Our thoughts at this time are with those involved and their families.
“An investigation into the collision is under way and we have already spoken to a number of witnesses. In order to help establish the cause of the collision, I would urge anyone who saw either the vehicle prior to the collision or a pedestrian walking in the area who has not already come forward, to do so.
“Likewise, if any motorists believe they may have dashcam footage which could assist our enquiries, I appeal for them to come forward.”
Anyone with information can contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 55511 in confidence, quoting incident number 4026 of December 7 2018.
