MORE terrifying blades have been handed into the knife amnesty box outside Chelmsford Police Station.
The knife amnesty is a joint enterprise between Essex Police and Only Cowards Carry, the charity set up by Caroline Shearer after her son Jay Whiston's murder, gives people who carry knives the opportunity to drop their weapons into secure, steel bins without fear of prosecution.
Trevor Woolley, 47, whose son Ashley Woolley, 18, died after being stabbed, is emptying the boxes before sending them to the British Ironworld Centre charity to be made into a angel statue, said: “I check the bins weekly so these knives were placed in the bin in the last week.
“The largest blade is 25 inches long, I could not believe the size of it – and that’s without the handle!
"It’s brilliant the bin is being used by people carrying knives.”
