The Belarusian football team are staying at a luxury hotel in the district while they compete in this year’s Olympic Games.
The team have picked the Crowne Plaza Resort in Tolleshunt Knights to stay in while they are in the country.
Councillor Robert Long said: “As a district councillor for the Tolleshunt D’Arcy and a resident of Tolleshunt Knights for 30 years, I am proud to know that the football team are staying within our area.
“They have obviously looked for a really good upmarket hotel and seen that we are 30 minutes from Stratford.
“We are the perfect choice.”
Maldon is twinned with Brest, in Belarus.
