A MOTORIST escaped injury after a brick was thrown from a bridge, smashing his windscreen.
The man was driving a white Vauxhall van south along the A414 from Tesco in Fullbridge to Morrisons in Wycke Hill at about 4pm on Saturday when a projectile was launched from the London Road bridge over the road.
His windscreen was smashed, causing £300 damage, but fortunately the man was not injured.
Police are extremely concerned and are hoping that anyone who saw anything will come forward.
Inspector Nigel Cockrell, of Maldon police, said: “This is a serious matter - a car was driving along and it is lucky there were no injuries caused by this. It could have been a lot worse.
“If anybody was in the area and saw anything, they should get in contact with us.”
The man who threw the brick is believed to have been wearing a leather jacket and blue jeans.
After the brick was thrown, he made off in the direction of Maldon High Street.
