NEW hospital chaplains have been welcomed to Broomfield Hospital by the Bishop of Bradwell.

A special service was held at the hospital’s chapel to celebrate the licensing and commissioning of the Reverend Julia Sheffield, Anglican chaplain, Rufin Emmanuel, generic chaplain, and Mandy Horsley, lay chaplain, as the Trust Chaplains for both Mid Essex Hospitals and the North Essex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

Rev Guy Goodall, lead chaplain at Mid Essex hospitals, said: “The chaplains work alongside the clinicians in providing spiritual support to patients and this is an essential part of hospital life.

“The whole chaplaincy team is committed to the dignity and care of each patient, providing appropriate pastoral, spiritual and religious care, regardless of faith or cultural background.”

Three new Anglican Eucharistic Ministers have also been welcomed to the trust, Stella Barnes, Christine Bealer and Joyce Bull.

The chaplains all work closely as a team giving unique support to patients and relatives as soon as they enter hospital. Their work is supported by a number of lay ward chaplains. These are men and women from a variety of faith backgrounds.

They visit wards on a weekly basis, offering pastoral and spiritual support, and outline the service provided by the pastoral care and chaplaincy team.
