Colchester Zoo has announced the birth of a "curious" endangered animal.

The chimpanzee infant was born on Tuesday, November 3, to female chimpanzee Tara, following the arrival of Kiera in January.

Both chimpanzees are granddaughters of Billy Jo, who was Tara and Kora’s mother. Kiera has shown curiosity about the arrival, while zoo staff said the group are getting along well.

Animal care staff are watching the mother, father and infant as they spend days bonding. They said all three are doing well.

Visitors have been asked to keep noise to a minimum at Chimpanzee Lookout while the family settles in. Zoo officials said updates will be shared.

Staff are keeping watch over Tara, the father and infant during bonding. Visitors are asked to give the chimpanzee group time to settle and to avoid making noise near the lookout when they come to see them.

The zoo said Kiera is curious, and the group are getting along well with the infant.
