Drivers face delays as roadworks start tonight on a busy stretch of the A12.

The essential resurfacing work will be carried out on the A12 southbound between Marks Tey and Hatfield Peverel over three nights, beginning on Wednesday, November 4.

Work is scheduled to take place overnight between 9pm and 5am on weeknights only, weather permitting.

National Highways has announced that the A12 southbound will be closed, and traffic will be rerouted via the A120 towards Braintree and the A131 towards Chelmsford.

Drivers should leave the A12 southbound at junction 25 for Marks Tey, then take the third exit onto the A120 westbound at the Princess of Wales Roundabout.

At the next roundabout, take the first exit onto Coggeshall Road and continue towards Braintree.

At the Marks Farm Roundabout, drivers should take the first exit onto the A120 westbound before exiting at the Great Notley roundabout for the A131.

Continue towards Chelmsford, then take the fourth exit at Generals Lane Roundabout for the A12 northbound and follow it to junction 25.

National Highways says the work is needed for safety and emergency vehicles will have access throughout.

However, drivers are advised that closures may change at short notice.

Drivers should plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys.
