FREE train travel has been offered to help people across Essex attend Remembrance events.

GBR Anglia is offering free journeys to serving personnel and veterans.

For the first time, one immediate family member of someone who died in service can also travel free.

Rob Mullen, chief customer and commercial officer at GBR Anglia, said: "At GBR Anglia, we stand together in Remembrance of those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and honour all those who have served and continue to serve in our Armed Forces.

"We are honoured to offer complimentary travel to veterans and serving military personnel attending Remembrance events this weekend, and we thank them for their extraordinary service."

The offer covers return journeys on c2c and Greater Anglia services to Remembrance events.

GBR Anglia estimates around 650 bereaved family members may be eligible for the scheme.

People travelling to the Cenotaph Service of Remembrance can travel free to London on Saturday, November 7, and Sunday, November 8.

People attending events outside London can travel free on return journeys on Remembrance Sunday, November 8.

The offer is limited to one standard-class return journey on National Rail services.

It does not cover Transport for London services, including the Underground, Overground, Elizabeth line, DLR, buses or trams.

Veterans can claim the offer with a Veterans Railcard, Veterans ID card or other recognised proof of status.

Serving personnel can travel in uniform or show a Ministry of Defence identity card.

Eligible bereaved family members will receive a personalised free ticket through an application process managed by the MoD.

The tickets are valid only for the named recipient, who must carry photographic identification.

Passengers can get journey-planning help and live travel updates from National Rail and participating operators.

Passengers needing extra support can book assisted travel in advance.

If a train is delayed or cancelled, the free ticket remains valid on alternative services during its validity period.

Those who have already purchased tickets but qualify for the scheme are advised to contact their ticket retailer to enquire about refunds.

c2c travellers are encouraged to check ahead of travel due to engineering works between Barking and Fenchurch Street during the weekend of November 7 and 8.
