Drivers face an hour-long diversion as a key stretch of the A131 is set to close.

The route near Braintree will shut overnight for resurfacing works between Broad Road and the Marks Farm Roundabout.

The closure will run from 8pm to 6am each night from October 17 to October 19.

A 41-mile diversion is expected to add around an hour to journey times.

Drivers will be sent along the Braintree Bypass and Great Leigh Bypass towards Chelmsford before joining the A12.

From there, traffic will continue to Junction 26, head towards Halstead, then turn left onto the A131 towards Broad Street.

A spokesperson for Essex County Council said: "The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce."

Access will remain available at all times for emergency services and pedestrians.

Drivers are advised to plan their journey ahead, and to avoid travelling during closure hours.
