Diesel prices have surged to a record high in the UK, leaving Essex drivers looking for the cheapest forecourts to fill up.
The national average reached 199.18p per litre on Monday, just above the previous record set in 2022 following the start of the war in Ukraine.
The latest surge has driven diesel prices close to £2 a litre at many north Essex stations.
Simon Williams, head of policy at the RAC, said: "The average price of a litre of diesel has now reached the highest level in UK history, in what will be a financial blow to households and businesses that use their vehicles regularly.
"The cost of filling up an average family car is now almost £110, £31 more than it was at the start of the US-Iran conflict.
"This spells pain not only at the pumps for drivers, but for everyone who buys goods or services that rely on diesel lorries and vans; undoubtedly these increased costs will be passed on to consumers."
Motoring organisations are calling on the government to extend the current 5p cut in fuel duty, which is set to end later this year.
