A popular farm shop and café has closed temporarily after burglars broke in overnight.
Fields Farm Shop and Café, in East Bergholt, announced that it had been broken into, forcing the business to shut for breakfast and potentially lunch while staff dealt with the aftermath.
The business shared the news in a social media post on Sunday, saying it needed time to assess the situation and restore normal operations.
A separate Mersea seafood business recently closed for a week after thieves stole thousands of pounds’ worth of stock in an overnight break-in.
In a statement, Fields Farm Shop and Café said: “Sadly, Fields was broken into last night.
“As a result, we will be closed for breakfast today and possibly for lunch while we assess the situation and get everything back in order.
“We’ll keep everyone updated as soon as we have more information.
“Thank you so much for your patience, support and understanding.”

The announcement prompted an outpouring of support from customers, with many expressing sympathy in the comments.
One customer wrote: “Ugh I’m so sorry this has happened to you again. Hope all the animals are okay.”
Another said: “I’m sure I saw another local eaterie broken in to yesterday.”
It is not currently known what was taken during the break-in or the extent of any damage caused.
Fields Farm Shop and Café said it would provide further updates once more information becomes available.
