Motorists are facing severe disruption after a reported crash involving a car and a van forced the closure of a major Essex route in both directions.
The A12 Chelmsford Bypass remains closed at Junction 15 for the A414 at Three Mile Hill, with traffic being diverted via the exit and entry slip roads while emergency services and highways teams deal with the incident.
National Highways has confirmed contractors are on their way to assess damage to the central reservation barrier following the collision.

Long queues have formed on both approaches to the scene, with National Highways reporting delays of up to 50 minutes northbound and 10 minutes southbound.
The collision, which involved a car and a van, was first reported at around 4.50am.
Essex Police has been contacted for comment.
