A speedboat killer has been jailed for 20 months after attacking his girlfriend with barbecue tongs.
Jack Shepherd, 39, pleaded guilty to three offences, including two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and damaging property.
The assaults led to his recall to prison, where he had initially been jailed for manslaughter in 2018 over the death of 24-year-old Charlotte Brown from Clacton-on-Sea.
The incident occurred when his speedboat crashed during a first date.
Shepherd, a web developer, met Ms Brown and offered to take her for a ride along the River Thames.
They had both been drinking champagne, and Shepherd handed the controls of the boat to Ms Brown just before it struck a submerged tree and overturned, tipping both of them into the cold water.
Shepherd was rescued from the Thames, but Ms Brown was found unconscious and unresponsive.
Despite denying manslaughter by gross negligence, Shepherd skipped his Old Bailey trial while on the run in Georgia.
He was eventually extradited back to the UK to serve his sentence and was set free on licence in January 2024.
However, he faced recall to prison in September last year after being accused of violence towards a new partner.
According to a prosecution summary, Shepherd began dating the woman, who is in her 50s, in August 2024.
However, towards the end of the year, she accused him of being abusive and threatening.
In February 2025, Shepherd admitted pinning down the woman and punching her several times during an argument, causing bruising to her arm and top of her leg.
In June 2025, Shepherd got angry with his partner for burning a pizza during a barbecue and hit her with the barbecue tongs on her left breast, causing a permanent scar.
On Monday morning, he was sentenced to 20 months in prison with a further four years on extended licence.
The 39-year-old was sentenced at Isleworth Crown Court, having previously pleaded guilty to two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and a charge of damaging property.
