A former police officer and business founder has appeared at court facing multiple fraud charges.

Christian Hunt, 49, of Mildmay Road, Burnham, appeared at Colchester Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, May 26, accused of defrauding investors, employees and other directors.

His charges include carrying on the business of a company with intent to defraud creditors for fraudulent purposes, four counts of fraud by false representation, and corrupt/improper exercise of police powers and privileges by a constable.

They relate to his role running a digital analytics company and follow an investigation by Essex Police’s Economic Crime Unit.

Mr Hunt, who served with Kent Police until 2022, was remanded on conditional bail until a hearing at Southwark Crown Court on June 23.

He was one of four people arrested in November 2024.

A 56-year-old woman and a 44-year-old woman were released with no further action, while a 56-year-old man was given a conditional caution and must complete a fraud awareness course.
