A MALDON novelist has released a novel set in a post-apocalyptic future in the county.

Novelist Benjamin Lloyd has published A Sky Full of Ashes, an intense thriller set in and around Maldon.

The plot follows former Apache pilot Adams, navigating a radiation-scorched wasteland, which is dominated by the tyrannical slave empire of the Citadel, and a mysterious island commune led by an enigmatic figure called "The Father".

Benjamin's fifth work of fiction brings readers military survival action in the aftermath of nuclear fallout, touching on themes of guilt, forgiveness and humanity's fragile hope after catastrophe.

Benjamin Lloyd, who is based in Maldon, said: "In A Sky Full of Ashes, I wanted to paint a realistic UK apocalypse – not zombies, but radiation, starvation, and moral decay.

"Adams' journey from killer to seeker mirrors our own search for meaning in chaos.

"Perhaps most importantly, I wanted to explore the concepts of faith and forgiveness – particularly for those of us who sometimes believe our sins to be unforgivable."

Early readers have praised the novel as "raw, relentless and redemptive".

Benjamin is also the author of the popular DI Carson mystery thrillers.

A Sky Full of Ashes is available for purchase on Amazon.
