A BURNHAM nursery received a donation of gardening tools to support hands-on outdoor learning.

Close to Home Nursery was gifted child-friendly gardening kits by David Wilson Homes during National Gardening Week.

The donation aims to help pupils learn through play and exploration in their outdoor environment.

Sarah Trower, owner of Close to Home Nursery, said: "We are extremely grateful to David Wilson Homes for its donation of the tools and watering cans."

Each of the three gardening sets includes a watering can, hand fork, trowel and gardening gloves.

The equipment is designed to help children safely plant and tend to flowers and vegetables in the nursery’s garden.

Amy Hutchinson Gill, also an owner at the nursery, said: "Teaching children about sustainable lifestyles, growing our own fruit and vegetables, and understanding plant lifecycles is an integral part of our curriculum.

"These new resources are directly enhancing the children’s learning and interactions."

The donation will add to the outdoor learning programme at the nursery, which is near David Wilson Homes’ Corinthian Place development off Maldon Road.

Will Phair, sales director at David Wilson Homes Eastern Counties, said: "We’re delighted to support Close to Home Nursery during National Gardening Week by donating these gardening equipment sets.

"Gardening is a fantastic way for children to learn new skills, work as a team and enjoy the benefits of being outdoors.

"Supporting schools and nurseries in the communities where we build is extremely important to us, and we hope this donation helps to inspire the next generation of gardeners."
