A man who wanted to steal from a home in South Woodham Ferrers has been put behind bars.

On November 12, 2023, Abd Benallal tried to break into a home in Southern Drive, equipped with a crowbar and Swiss army knife.

Initially denying one count of attempted burglary with intent to steal, the 36-year-old Moroccan national changed his plea in early February, admitting the offence.

Recorder Alun Eynon-Evans sentenced Benallal, of Ravensdale Road, Stoke Newington, to 16 months imprisonment at Chelmsford Crown Court on Friday.

Upon his release, he will face deportation.

He was also ordered to surrender the crowbar and knife.
