Maldon Choral Society is inviting music lovers to join them for a spectacular evening of choral music as they celebrate their centenary year.

In just ten days’ time, on Saturday March 28, at 7.30pm, the choir will perform Haydn’s uplifting oratorio The Creation at Maldon United Reformed Church.

This concert is the first major event of the choir’s centenary year, marking 100 years of choral singing in the town.

The society has a proud history stretching back to the 1920s, when a group of Welsh miners moved to Maldon and, with their love of singing, formed a male voice choir in 1926.

A ladies’ choir was established in 1933 under the leadership of Reg Gilbert, and in 1935 the two choirs merged to form the Maldon SX Choir.

After joining forces with the Tolleshunt d’Arcy Singers in 1973, the choir became the Maldon Choral Society as it is known today.

Over the decades, the society has performed countless concerts, toured abroad, and welcomed generations of singers.

Under the expert leadership of conductor Ashley Thompson, the society continues to perform a wide range of music, from Handel and Bach to Gilbert & Sullivan and even The Beatles.

This spring concert promises a highlight of the choir’s centenary celebrations, showcasing Haydn’s masterpiece in all its grandeur.

Tickets are on sale now, and early booking is recommended as seats are limited.

The evening promises not just music but an experience of centuries-old tradition brought vibrantly to life.

Chairman of the society Bridget  Brennan said: “We are thrilled to be performing The Creation as part of our 100-year celebrations. It’s a wonderful opportunity for the community to join us in this milestone and enjoy a truly uplifting evening of music.”

Rehearsals are held every Thursday during school term at All Saints’ Primary School, Highlands Drive, and new members are always welcome. For tickets and more information, visit maldonchoralsociety.co.uk.
