A NEW clothing and textile doorstep collection service is starting up in Maldon.

Maldon District Council has introduced the bookable service this week to simplify the process of recycling unwanted clothing and other textiles.

The scheme, operated by Essex Textiles Ltd, offers residents a weekly Thursday collection which must be booked in advance.

Councillor Richard Siddall, leader of the council, said: "This change is about making recycling simpler and more effective for residents.

"Booking a collection is quick and easy, and having a set weekly pick‑up means that the service will be more straightforward.

"This will enable residents to recycle more, cut waste, and keep usable textiles out of landfill.

"We’re committed to giving residents services that work well, and this is a positive step forward."

The new service replaces the former kerbside system, which required residents to leave textile sacks out with their usual recycling.

By moving to a booked collection model, the council aims to improve reliability and efficiency and boost recycling rates by making the process easier for residents.

Residents are being notified of the changes through leaflets delivered to homes.

Information is also available on the council's website and social media channels.
