A new mathematics and computing centre has officially opened at a school in Maldon.

Plume Academy celebrated the grand opening of The Tadd Mathematics and Computing Centre at its Mill Road campus on Monday, November 10, 2025.

This state-of-the-art centre is named after Mrs Cheryl Tadd, a dedicated mathematics teacher who spent 37 years inspiring students at the academy.

The centre stands as a testament to Mrs Tadd's exceptional career and her commitment to excellence in mathematics education.

Her passion for fostering mathematical understanding and computational skills among students has left a lasting impact on the school community.

The Tadd Mathematics and Computing Centre is designed with innovative learning spaces aimed at enhancing student engagement and supporting high-quality teaching and learning.

It will serve students from all year groups at the Mill Road campus, helping them to develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and mathematical skills essential in the digital age.

Mr Baster and Mrs Clark, joint heads of the academy, said, “Naming this centre after Mrs Tadd is a fitting tribute to her lifelong dedication to our students and the subject of mathematics.

"This facility will not only honour her legacy but also inspire future generations to reach their highest potential in mathematics and computing."

The facility was constructed by Beardwell Construction Limited, a regional contractor with more than 35 years of industry experience.

The academy expressed gratitude to the Beardwell team for their collaboration and commitment to the successful completion of the project.

Beardwell Construction Limited described the centre as a "modern single-storey facility" with high-quality classrooms and IT suites.

It boasts a high-performance building fabric that meets excellent energy and insulation standards, reflecting a shared commitment to sustainability.

James Beardwell, director for Beardwell Construction Limited, added: "Our team is pleased to have delivered this new facility for the school.

"Creating environments that support learning, growth, and community is at the heart of what we do, and it has been rewarding to see this project come together so successfully.

"We hope the students and staff enjoy the new space for many years to come."

The opening ceremony included a tour of the centre, speeches from academy leaders, and an opportunity for students, staff, and the local community to explore the new building.
