The Maldon Town Neighbourhood Plan Working Group will be forming a community-led document that will set planning rules for local development and land use.
This follows a series of public drop-in events in October 2025, where 96 people attended to learn about and discuss the future of Maldon.
A "next steps" meeting was held on November 19, 2025, attended by around 30 people interested in being actively involved in the planning process.
The working group will consist of key stakeholders, interested community members, and town councillors who can use their time and skills to shape the neighbourhood plan.

Those interested in joining the working group are encouraged to submit a formal expression of interest before Christmas.
The form is available on the council's website, with paper copies supplied on request.
The first formal meeting of the neighbourhood plan working group is expected to take place in January or February 2026.
Mayor of Maldon, councillor John Driver, said: "I am genuinely encouraged by the community engagement we have already seen, which demonstrates a clear desire to take ownership of Maldon's future.
"The neighbourhood plan is a vital tool that allows us to influence local planning rules.
"I urge residents and stakeholders with time and relevant skills to step forward and join the Working Group by submitting an 'expression of interest' before Christmas.
"The next stage is critical where initial feedback is tested and transformed into potential policy.
"We cannot achieve a plan that truly reflects Maldon's needs without your active involvement and commitment."
